Presbytery Appeal for PPE in Zambia

An appeal to raise money for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Zambia is being set up and coordinated by Torbain church, and our Mission Partner, Jenny Featherstone.

Jenny informs us, that although Zambia appears to have very low cases of Covid-19, it is because they are not testing as a matter of course, and that nurses in her area are being expected to buy their own PPE, which many of them can't afford. The funds raised will be sent to Jenny, who will use them to buy and distribute PPE, to nurses and other clinicians who are at risk.

Some of the items Jenny has suggested she would like to buy are as follows, with approximate costings.

  • Disposable gowns - £20/pack
  • Disposable gloves - £4.50/pack
  • M95 Masks - £3.50 each
  • Laser thermometer - £22 each
  • Single use masks - 25p each
  • Visors - £2.25 each
  • 5l disinfectant - £9
  • 5l hand sanitiser - £25

If this is something you would like to contribute to, payment can be made to Torbain church in the following ways:

  • Electronically (bank transfer): Sort Code: 80-16-84; Account Number: 10207261 with reference (ZAMBIA APPEAL) is used for bank transfers

  • Cash - please contact Lauren Jones on 07913611018 or to discuss the best way for this to be dropped off/collected (socially distanced)

  • By Cheque, made payable to ‘Torbain Parish Church’, clearly marked as for the Zambia Appeal

For personal donations, if a Gift Aid declaration is provided, Torbain's treasurer will apportion the relevant amount to the appeal. A Gift Aid declaration form is available below, and can be completed and emailed to Lauren Jones at
