Foodbank Letter
11th November 2019
Kirkcaldy Foodbank

We have received the following letter from the Kirkcaldy Foodbank:

The Kirkcaldy Foodbank steering group have asked me to thank you for your recent generous donation which is so welcomed and vital to our aim of feeding those who are hungry in the Kirkcaldy area. We are continually thankful and humbled by the huge community effort which enables us to provide emergency food parcels weekly.

As a volunteer organisation which is dependent on donations we are struggling to respond to the chronic food poverty in our area. The ever increasing demand is putting a strain on our resources and we fear that we may on occasion run out of food and have to turn needy people away and signpost them to agencies that have a statutory duty to assist, knowing that they are also at breaking point. Something has to change.

However the Foodbank began because people like you couldn’t stand by and wait for change while others were going hungry in our area. We may not be able to help everyone but can make a difference to many. With our grateful thanks again and the sincere hope that we will see a change both nationally and locally ..... an end to the reality of the need for foodbanks in this day and age so that families and individuals can avoid the crisis points which give them few options but to come to us for help.

Your continued support and encouragement is so greatly appreciated.

Kerry Horsburgh (on behalf of Kirkcaldy Foodbank)

Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal 2019 Update
10th November 2019
Blythswood Care

Thank you very much to everyone who filled a shoebox or gave a donation. 87 boxes were filled by the congregation and 25 boxes were filled by children of Dunnikier School and Nursery. Also, donations amounting to £135 were received from people who were unable to fill a shoebox. This was greatly appreciated by the driver and his passenger who have done voluntary work for Blythswood for a number of years and love to come to the cafe’ when they come on a Thursday to uplift the boxes.

By filling a shoebox with simple things you can bring a smile to someone living in poverty this Christmas. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make the Shoebox Appeal so successful. Well done Bennochy Church!

Update: A letter has been received from Blythswood Care thanking everyone for being an important part of the 2019 Shoebox Appeal. Every gift in every shoebox makes a difference and lets somebody know that they have been thought about and loved. The impact can last longer than the festive season, it can bring a smile and transform a life. Thank you all for bringing a smile this Christmas.

If anyone is interested in knowing more of the history concerning this please speak to our Session Clerk or minister.

Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal 2019
1st September 2019
Blythswood Care

It is time again to think about those less fortunate than we are - by filling a shoebox with gifts for people that have so little we can make a difference. Shampoo, socks, a notepad, a small toy, a bag of sweets, toothpaste and toothbrush, scarf and hat - these are just some of the things we take for granted but will seem like luxuries to people living in poverty.

Please support this appeal and bring some happiness to someone in need this Christmas. Covered shoeboxes will be available from next Sunday and the filled boxes will be uplifted at the beginning of November. Please bring your shoebox to church on Sunday, 3rd November or the Sunday nearest to that date. (not 27th October). Thank you.
